Marine Pvt. Frederick R. Lane, son of Brenda M. and Frederick R. Lane Sr., has completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.
Pvt. 1st Class Richard L. Anderson, son of Ronald L. and Sandra A. Anderson of Route 7, was presented the Air Assault Badge upon graduation from the U.S. Army’s assault school at Fort Campbell, Kent.

Melissa Wood, the 1-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary F. Wood of Johnstown, Pa., was the center of attraction during a family gathering recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Wood, 1013 Seventh St. Melissa’s great-great grandmother, Mrs. Gena Braaten, will be celebrating her 88th birthday in August.
First-place winners in last Thursday’s “Dress Up Night” for the Border Bowling League were Darlene Tomczak, Maureen Tomczak, Regina Friesen, Barb Keeney and Pat Rundell.
Lari Ann Fogarty received special congratulations from Bernard Olson, hospital administrator, at the Candy Stripers Appreciation and Awards Tea Saturday. She had more than 200 hours of volunteer service recorded during the past year.

Mrs. Robert Johnson and children, Ray, moved to the Falls Saturday to make their home. Mr. Johnson is still confined to the Veterans’ Hospital in Minneapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bartholomew and family of the Falls moved into the house vacated by the Johnson family.
A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Roger Pearson, 8 pounds, 3 ounces.
An open house to honor Mr. and Mrs. David Forsythe, Van Lynn Road, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at their home. The 12 children of the couple are giving the open house.
Terry Shewchuk won the VFW Marble Tournament championship over 90 other competitors Thursday, after eliminating runner-up Rodney Christiansen.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Sulo Koski, Sleepy Hollow Cabins, weight, 5 pounds, 14 ounces. Name chosen, Susan Elizabeth.
Miss June Peggar is working at the Hartz store at Brown’s Corner.
Mrs. George Sutch, Loman Route, was guest of honor at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. William Keenan.
Mrs. Doris R. Blaeser, 50, former Koochiching County clerk of court and deputy county auditor, died Wednesday night at St. Barnabas Hospital, Minneapolis, following surgery for a brain tumor.

Rochelle Hazen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hazen of Jameson Addition, celebrated her second birthday by entertaining a group of little tots and their mothers.
Mrs. Bronko Nagurski, Rainy Lake, was hostess at a party complimenting her sister, Mrs. Lawrence Sheehy (Kathleen Kane), who will leave this week for Grand Marais to make her home.
Mrs. George Genzel was guest of honor at a surprise birthday party at her home on Rainy Lake. Hostesses were Mrs. Gunnar Lindstrom, Mrs. Chester Genzel and Mrs. Henry Swenson.
Bill Bruggeman, who has been employed in Minneapolis, has returned here to take over the Zinsmaster Bread Agency from his brother, Burton, for the duration.
