Building activity in the Riverview section of International Falls stepped up last week as construction started on a dwelling for Mr. and Mrs. Tom Pihulak, 316 Fifth St. A Mando machinist, Pihulak has been planning this building program for more than a year.

Mrs. Merton Christensen, Ranier, was honored guest at a stork shower Friday evening in Ranier Community Hall. Hostesses were Mrs. Floyd Paulson, Mrs. Valio Johnson, Mrs. Anton Rud, Mrs. Jack Paulson and Mrs. John Sop.

Mrs. Harvey L. Misner, 915 Ninth Ave., left the city this morning by bus for St. Paul where she will visit Mr. and Mrs. John Carlson and daughter, Nancy. She plans to travel by airliner from Minneapolis to Denver, Colo., to reside while her husband, an airman third class, is stationed at Lowry Air Force Base.

Mrs. Henry Wirkkula, 1105 Eighth St., was guest of honor at a surprise birthday party at her home. In charge of arrangements were Mrs. Olaf Bromberg and Mrs. Hilma Sterna.

Mr. and Mrs. William Hoglund, City Hotel, announce the birth of a son today at the Northern Minnesota Hospital. William John are the names chosen for the child.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Darval received word that their son, Ernest, arrived safely in Pearl Harbor. Darval said the trip took 2 1/2 weeks.

Misses Glea Solberg and Alice Holenko left this morning for Minneapolis where they will take a series of nursing aptitude tests for prospective student nurses at the University of Minnesota testing bureau.
