The ceremony of initiation was conducted for Robert Richmond, Donald Holst and Carlton Gedney during the Star of the North Chapter, Order of Eastern Star meeting.
Boise Cascade’s Minnesota Woodlands Division announced three appointments. Bob Withrow was named chip and pulpwood storage manager, and Larry Allan becomes chip mill superintendent. David P. Austin will fill the vacancy created by Bill Matthews’ transfer to the process center.

Freddie Mannausau, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mannausau, Loman, was suddenly stricken by an acute attack of appendicitis recently.
Falls High School graduates Renee Frenette and John Frykman have enrolled at Minnesota School of Business, Minneapolis.
New officers of Brownie Intermediate Troop 135 are: Vivian Ewing, president; Pennee Christenson, secretary; Phyllis Swenson, treasurer; and Joyce Trott, scribe.
Ken Amick of the First National Insurance Agency and L.E. (Russ) Russell of Falls Rexall Drug were inducted into membership in the Falls Rotary Club.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Gene Covel, 212 1/2 Fourth Ave., weight, 7 pounds, 4 ounces.
L.A. Orvalla, 514 1/2 Fifth Ave., who spent the past seven and a half months in Greenland, returned home. He was a carpenter foreman on an air base construction project.
Mrs. Ronald Bailey, 414 1/2 Sixth St., was honored at a farewell party by co-workers at Minnesota Telephone Company. Mrs. Bailey will leave Saturday for Bigfork where her husband is employed.
New officers of Girl Scout Troop 145 are Barbara Lemke, president; Charlotte Roeder, vice president; Marilyn Custer, secretary; Sandra Hill, treasurer; and Kay Shortridge, scribe.
70 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kalar of Holler announce the birth of a daughter today at the Northern Minnesota Hospital. Kay Romelle are the names chosen for the child.
Mrs. James McDevitt of this city has received word from her son, Owen, that he has passed his examinations for training as a specialist in the ground crew of the Air Force and will leave Fort Snelling later this week for Baker’s Field, Calif.
A surprise birthday party was given honoring Mrs. Clarence Johnson of Ericsburg at the home of Mrs. Oscar Amundson, Ericsburg.
Mrs. John Franko was guest of honor at a surprise birthday party Saturday afternoon at the community hall in Papermakers’ Colony.
