John O. Kalstad died yesterday at Falls Good Samaritan Center. Mr. Kalstad began as a teacher in Falls School District 361 and became Superintendent of Schools.

Nicky Soboleski has been named McDonald’s Falls High School Student of the Week.

Private Michael J. Sullivan, son of John F. and Anna M. Sullivan of 112 Shorewood Drive, has completed basic training at Fort Dix, N.J.

Navy Seaman Recruit Edward L. Chezick, son of Paul J. and Mary A. Chezick of Route 7, has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego, Calif.

40 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Tillie Mann, a resident of Falls Nursing Home, was 82 Thanksgiving Day when members of her family of 12 children, 36 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren came to visit, as well as today.

Mrs. Fred (Fern) Laurion, an official member of the Robert Shaw family, since the marriage of her son, Ronald, to the former Jessie Shaw, was one of the happy family group present at Faith United Church Fellowship Hall, where all the Shaws gathered from far and wide, for their annual Thanksgiving feast and fun-day.

Claude T. Laird, crane operator, is retiring tomorrow with a total of 46 years of service to Boise Cascade and predecessor companies in the border area.

Mrs. John Beck’s sister, Joyce and family of three children, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wheelock, of Loman, enjoyed the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. John Beck at their Forest Point home Thanksgiving Day.

50 YEARS AGO

A son was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Skrien, 8 pounds, 12 1/2 ounces.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Donald LaGoo, Ranier, 7 pounds, 7 ounces.

Two Falls High School students, Gail Jameson and Rhoda Perle, both 12th grade pupils, maintained a straight “A” average during the first semester of the present term.

Holiday weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Wolfe, 704 Seventh St., are their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Davis, Minneapolis, and their son, Bob Wolfe, a student at Bemidji State College. The Davises are also visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Asplund, Island View Route.

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born yesterday to Mr. and Mrs. Morris Olson, Loman Route, at Falls Memorial Hospital, 7pounds, 6 3/4 ounces.

City police had 20 vehicles hauled off the streets early Sunday so that snowplows could go ahead with their work. Only lack of storage space prevented more cars from being towed to garages.

Randall Scott Lucca, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Tranquillo Lucca, 1140 Seventh Ave., was feted at a birthday party this afternoon. Ten of Randall’s contemporaries and their mothers attended the event.

St. Thomas Catholic rectory was the scene Saturday afternoon of the marriage of Miss Stella Rose Zeleny, Fort Frances, to Donald Sandbeck, the Falls.
