Lois Nelson Lewis was named Minnesota Association of Extension Agents’ “Early Career” award winner at the Minnesota Extension Service annual conference.

Former Falls resident Robert F. Fritz was inducted into the Concordia College Athletic Hall of Fame. Fritz, a 1927 graduate of Falls High School and a 1935 graduate of Concordia, played tailback and fullback all four years at the college.

Mr. and Mrs. Brent Gerlach of East Grand Rapids, announce the birth of their first child, Jennifer Jean, born yesterday in Itasca Memorial Hospital. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Allan Gerlach, and paternal great-grandmother is Mrs. Joseph Kantor, all of the Falls.

A girl was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. John Everett.

In the final All-Northland Team of the Week, sponsored by WDIO-WIRT TV, the Broncos’ Brad Mongrain was named to the 15-man squad.

Miss Joanne Finstad, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Finstad, Ranier, is a research fellow at the University of Minnesota.

Linda Crawford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Crawford, Loman, has completed the prescribed course in cosmetology at the Thief River Falls Area Vocational-Technical School.

Mrs. Ronald Pelland, 1005 Seventh Ave., was guest of honor at a pink and blue shower at her home.

Mrs. Rodney Lofgren, Avon Apt. No. 4, entertained at an afternoon birthday party for her son, Brian, who was 2.

A daughter was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dilly, Ranier, weight, 6 pounds, 12 ounces. Name chosen, Darlene Alice.

A son was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Johnson, South International Falls, weight, 9 pounds, 5 ounces.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. George Sirotiak, South International Falls. Name chosen, Susan Cherly.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower smashed all voting records today as he won the presidency in a sprawling landslide that left control of Congress teetering in the balance between Republicans and Democrats.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Leseman, Loman Route, are parents of a daughter born today at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.

Miss Margaret Ludwig and Mrs. Joe Ludwig left for Watsonville, Calif. Mrs. Ludwig, who has made her home in Watsonville for several months, came home two weeks ago because of the illness of her father. Miss Ludwig will make her home in the West.

Al Frederickson recently celebrated his 73rd birthday.

Gene Gallagher, accountant with the Mando main office for the past 6 1/2 years, has cleaned out his desk, packed his belongings and this weekend starts off on a long trail to North Africa where he will be employed for the duration of the war.
