Steven and Debra Landmark and brother William are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter and sister, Christa Joyce, who was born today.

New members of the Rainy Lake Rousers 4-H Club are Kim Clark, Joan Mielke, Julie Mielke, Diane Beach, Valerie Beach, Wayne Halvorson, Kelly Bohman and Brad Williams.

President Nixon has soared to his greatest personal triumph, but his landslide re-election confronts him with at least two more years of divided government as Democrats kept firmly in command of Congress.

Rainy River Community College will be building its hockey hopes around returning lettermen Brain Briggs, Jeff Boyum, Shawn Sheehy, Jerry Doris, Jim Bischke and Ron Bernard.

 

50 YEARS AGO

A new business in the Falls which will be of interest to local culinary aesthetes is the Magic Coney Island, an eating establishment located behind Woolworth’s at 312 Third Ave. The cafe, opened Oct. 10, is owned and operated by the “Coney Island King” and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Al Ophus.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Calligan were guests of honor Sunday evening at a family dinner at the home of Mrs. Calligan’s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dahl, 721 Ninth St.

Sharon Milender was guest of honor on the occasion of her 11th birthday on Sunday at the Clarence Wallen home. Prizes were won at games by Debby Carlson, Patricia O’Leary, Marilyn O’Leary, Juanita Jensen, Doni Nestergard and Linda Batcher.

Mrs. Donavan Skifstad was honored at a baby shower at the home of Mrs. Phillip Strand.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Arne Johnson, woods worker, employed by Al and George Esslinger, Lake Kabetogama, was injured in an accident while harvesting pulpwood. Johnson sustained a broken leg and cut on the head.

Mrs. Donald Petman, 614 Fifth Ave., entertained at a coffee party to aid Falls Memorial Hospital. Each guest brought a towel and washcloth to be presented to the hospital.

Taking Shirley O’Keefe’s place at Falls High School as junior English teacher and class play director is Douglas Verrill. He hails from Saco, Maine.

Pfc. Marvin C. Knaffla has arrived in Alaska for the huge Army-Air Force Arctic maneuver, “Operation Warm Wind.”

 

70 YEARS AGO

Gerald S. Hall, son of Mr. and Ms. Charles Hall, of this city, will begin civilian pilot training Nov. 15 in Oshkosh, Wis., where he has resided for over a year.

Mrs. and Mrs. Wayne Maki and son of Ray moved to International Falls.

Mrs. John Decker entertained at a party Sunday complimenting her granddaughter, Catherine Ann Decker, on her 10th birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Albertson were guests of honor at a party at the Eugene Holler home on Highway 53 Sunday, the occasion being Mr. Albertson’s birthday.
