Matt Jaksa shot a nine-point buck Saturday while hunting in the Littlefork area. The 190-pound deer was the first deer Jaksa shot.

Thirteen-year-old Serena Laurent of the Falls nailed a 170-pound, 10-point buck near Big Falls Sunday. It was the first deer she had ever shot.

 

40 YEARS AGO

Champions of the fifth grade football league are Dale White, Douglas Krzoska, Robert Moone, Peter Kalar, David Lindhag, James Piekarski, Robert Anderson, Blaine St. Germaine, Warren Balcolm and Danny Wednchuk.

Thomas L. Morin, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo R. Morin, Loman Route, has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

In the latest statistics released by the World Hockey Association, ex-Bronco Tim Sheehy has begun to find the scoring touch for the New England Whalers. As of Nov. 6, Sheehy has scored four goals and added two assists for six points.

The twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Nils Anderson, 126 12th St., and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Anderson, were christened last Sunday at the Covenant Church.

Pvt. Larry Allen Jean, son of Mrs. Frank Jean, South International Falls, returned to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., following a 12-day leave spent here with his mother.

A boy was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hall Sr., South International Falls, 6 pounds, 7 1/2 ounces, Glen Joseph.

John Bartkowski and Dr. C.B. Will returned the other day from their annual goose hunting trip to the plains of Saskatchewan.

 

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter, Ann Estrelle, was born today to Mr. and Mrs. Donn Olmsted of Harrington Park, N.J. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces. Mrs. Olmsted is the former Cora Slowe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Slowe, Ranier.

Mrs. James Emlaw, Faye Apartments, was honored in absentia at a stork shower at Nora’s Eat Shoppe. Mrs. Emlaw was confined to her home and her many gifts were opened by her sister, Mrs. Leonard Sutherland.

A son was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. John Monrean, South International Falls, weight, 7 pounds, 3 ounces.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Zepp, 611 Fifth St., weight, 7 pounds, 3 ounces. Name chosen, Ralph Hamilton.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Arnold Hawkenson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hawkenson, left for Hibbing to complete his enlistment in the Navy.

Mrs. Charles Rasmussen, who recently moved here with her husband from Grafton, N.D., was guest of honor at a housewarming party. Hostesses were Mrs. Fred Charlton, Mrs. Fred Rasmussen and Miss Josephine Rasmussen.

John Olander left Sunday for Minneapolis where he enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He will go to San Diego for basic training.

Larry Erickeson left International Falls for San Diego and military service. Larry will be attached to an Air Force ground cover.
