Bob Bahr, a longtime Falls resident and a snowplow operator for the State Department of Transportation, recently placed second in the DOT’s snowfighters’ winter maintenance preparation contest event conducted in St. Cloud.
The Brown Institute of Minneapolis has awarded Sue Eisenzoph a diploma for successfully completing six quarters in electronic technology.
40 YEARS AGO
Candidates for International Falls’ new Snow Queen are Nancy Berg, Loretta LeMoine, Kathy Manka, Marcia Michalek, Mary Morris, Barbara Rohl, Patti Thomson and Sharon Tomczak.
A few weeks ago, highway patrolman Bob Lavern and his wife were on a month-long visit with her relatives (she and Bob were married in Germany shortly after the end of World War II). While in the town of Karlsruhe, they walked into a hotel lobby and were more than surprised when Dan McCarthy and Arnold Kerr walked up to them and asked what in the world they were doing.
Susan Madaline Molskness, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Les Molskness, 1027 Eighth St., was awarded the Timothy Trophy by Pastor Morris Bender. Susan is the fourth young person from First Baptist to earn this coveted award.

A boy was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. James Neff, 612 1/2 Sixth Ave., 7 pounds, Stephen James.
Bethlehem Congregational Church has purchased a new parsonage for its pastor and family at 1403 11th St. The Rev. and Mrs. Stanley Lundberg and four children moved from the former parsonage, 506 Eighth St., on Nov. 1. The parsonage, formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Larson, is newly built and features three bedrooms and a full basement.
Milton Kochaniuk defeated veteran law enforcement officer Ed Anderson in his bid for re-election Tuesday by an overwhelmingly majority of votes.
Winners in the Ford-sponsored Punt, Pass and Kick competition are Scott Pearson, Allan Klay, Mark Koerbitz, Jeff Lindvall and Bruce Sandbeck.

Eighteen youngsters were entertained today at a theater party, followed by a birthday party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thor Lundeen, 1004 Sixth St., in honor of their son, Lindy, who was 3.
A son was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Titus, South International Falls, weight, 7 pounds, 8 ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ness, South International Falls, were honored at an open house celebration of their silver wedding anniversary Sunday afternoon and evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pavleck, South International Falls.
Kim Manley was honored on his sixth birthday anniversary Sunday with a theatre party for 18 guests. A patriotic decorating motif was used.
70 YEARS AGO
Ray Bussiere, fireman first class in the Navy, left for his station at Norfolk, Va., after a 10-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bussiere, 412 Fourth St.
Miss Luella Mills, bride-elect, was guest of honor at a shower at the Mills home in Ranier. Hostesses were F. Lasich, Mrs. A. Nelson and Mrs. H. Blixt.
A group of friends surprised Mrs. Andrew Jesperson on her birthday Thursday afternoon when they gathered at Lakeside Farm.
Steve Lucachick, petty officer second class, arrived in International Falls to spend a part of his Navy furlough with relatives and friends. A pharmacist’s mate, he is assigned to the fleet marine force and has the distinction of being permitted to wear either the naval or marine corps uniform.
