The children of Elmer and Dorothy Malmquist wish to invite you to a celebration of their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary to be held at the Evangelical Covenant Church Oct. 17, 2 to 4 p.m.

Judy Pearson, daughter of Fred and Rachel Grover, and Elroy Buchta, son of Ed and Dema Buchta, of Clarissa, exchanged wedding vows at the home of the groom’s parents recently.

 

40 YEARS AGO

Sophomore Homecoming king and queen are Stuart Laurion and Paula Lepisto. Junior royalty are Tammy LaGoo and Mark Carrier.

Mr. and Mrs. George Harrington recently made a trip to England and Scotland.

After becoming lost on a hunting trip Tuesday evening, two youths from Ray spent a wet, cold and very long night in the woods northeast of Ray. Tony Nolin, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Nolin, and Mike Sundin, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Einar Sundin, found their way out of the woods after daylight today and were given a ride home by passing motorists.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Falls High seniors Jacqueline Adleff, Cheryl Lundin and Karen Terebenet are being trained while employed at J.C. Penney in all phases of the dry goods business.

Miss Betty Bolstad, Betty Gjavenis and Marie Olson of International Falls were among the 14 certified nursing assistants who received their certificates from La Verendrye School for Nursing Assistants, Fort Frances, on Thursday evening

Sgt. Delbert Larson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Sather, South International Falls, has completed a 30-day leave and left for California enroute to Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa.

Pvt. Linda N. Lindberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard N. Lindberg, recently completed eight weeks of basic military training at the Women’s Army Corps center, Fort McClellan, Ala.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lovell, Ray, weight, 6 pounds, 10 ounces.

Mary Burton enjoyed her 10th birthday party Friday with a supper party for 20 friends.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Tranquillo Lucca, 1118 Seventh Ave., weight, 6 pounds, 10 ounces.

Eugene Sadek, South International Falls, is adding a garage to his home.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Miss Irene Lenz and Miss Beryle Christensen entertained Friday evening at their apartment, Keyes building, complimenting Mrs. John Burton.

Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson and Barbara moved Saturday from Ray to International Falls.

Chief Petty Officer and Mrs. William Torseth and family have moved here from Eveleth to make their home. Anthon’s Dray Line moved the family’s furniture here. 

Among the large group of prospective servicemen who left this morning for Fort Snelling and induction into the armed forces were Rudolph Leen and his son, George. This is the first father and son combination to answer a Selective Service call from Koochiching County and even more unusual, is the fact that both were included in the same quota.
