A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Ordean Jensen, 8 pounds, 6 1/2 ounces.
Several Mando old-timers (along with a couple “newcomers” gathered at dinner the other day to honor Art Larson, maintenance supervisor, who retired Oct. 1.
Donald L. Heem and Randy G. Heiberg, both of Littlefork, will leave Oct. 15 for induction into the armed forces.
A combination birthday party and farewell party honored Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lindvall at the Walter Lindvall home.
60 YEARS AGO
Daily Journal carriers Dennis Coleman, 14, David Grover, 14, and Richard Constantine, 12, were presented certificates for outstanding service on their paper routes.
Captain Clarence Schwankl has resumed his duties in the Mando forestry department and is again becoming adjusted to civilian life after his second experience with overseas combat duty. He returned Sept. 1 from Korea and was discharged a few days later at Camp Carson, Colo.
Mrs. Richard Sund, the former Valerie Sampson, left Saturday from Minneapolis to join her husband at Fairbanks, Alaska. Pfc. Sampson expects to be there another year and a half. His wife was formerly employed at the Federated Store here.
New officers of the Brown’s Corner 4-H Club are Robert Keenan, president; Jerry Raboin, vice president; Peggy Karsnia, secretary; Jack Karsnia, treasurer; and Lorrayne Charnell, reporter.
70 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Elliott, 309 Eighth St., announce the birth of a daughter today at the Laurion Maternity Home.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. John Franko near Brown’s Corner was completely destroyed by a fire of undetermined origin shortly after midnight Sunday night.
Frank Heritage has been employed as night watchman for the state for the state highway at Ranier for the past week.
Lieu. Gordon Pederson, U.S. Army, arrived this morning from Fort Benning, Ga., to spend six days at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Pederson, Ninth Avenue.
