Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Savard, 1012 Ninth St., recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary in Duluth at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Savard, and granddaughter, Cyndi.
A baby shower honoring Mrs. Glen Sohlman, Island View Route, was held recently in the John Howdahl residence.
Retiring this month after 52 years of service, Bill Martin, pulp mill superintendent, was honored by Boise Cascade Salary Club members at their regular monthly meeting.
50 YEARS AGO
Mrs. Mildred Torfin returned from Hoople, N.D., where she spent the past month working on a potato harvester. This marked the 11th year Mrs. Torfin has participated in the Dakota potato harvest.
New officers of the Ray Happy Workers 4-H club are: Earl Boyum, president; Dorothy Johnson, vice president; Phyllis Stoffel, secretary; Danny Boyum, treasurer; Emily Boyum, reporter; and David Chute, sergeant-at-arms.
St. Thomas School students Susan Cookson, Connie Kellner, John Fulton, Helen Pleimling, Joan Grinsell, Robert DeBenedet, Patrick Soboleski, Patrick Derr and Dale Johnson helped win for the fifth consecutive year a certificate of exceptional merit from the National School Safety Honor Roll of the National Safety Council.
New officers of Brownie Troop 160 are: Terry Valtinson, president; Melanie Mattson, scribe; and Rose Marie Dudley, treasurer.
60 YEARS AGO
The Falls Broncos failed to place a man on the 1952 Iron Range All-Conference football team but had two players named to the second eleven. They are tackle Frank Youso Jr., a junior, and Don Anderson, senior fullback.
Marilyn Lauring, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Lauring, 1025 Second St., celebrated her 10th birthday anniversary with a noon luncheon for 18 friends.
Cpl. Melvin LaPointe, 26, has been released from active duty with the army after two years in service.
Airman James Walkoviak is spending a 30-day leave from Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Walkoviak, 1308 13th Ave.

Mr. and Mrs. John McWilliams (Barbara Metcalf) of this city announce the birth of a daughter today at the Littlefork Hospital. She will be named Barbara Lynn.
Mrs. Earl Rutledge left Saturday for Boston where she will make her home. Mr. Rutledge is in the navy and is stationed at Boston.
A son was born today to Mr. and Mrs. Donald I. J. Scott (Hazel Harley) of this city at the Laurion Maternity Home. Wallace Garfield are the names chosen for the child.
Mrs. Nick Smerika, 913 Ninth St., was guest of honor at a surprise birthday party at her home. Hostess was Mrs. John Markow.
