25 YEARS AGO

Irma Gambino, 77, of Riverside Trailer Court, died today as the result of an auto accident.

Local Falls resident Rayetta Moone, currently a student at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, was crowned queen of the North Central Saddle Club Association for 1988. Jill Bradburn of Littlefork was crowned princess of the NCSCA for 1988.

 

40 YEARS AGO

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Sohlman, Island View Route.

William “Bill” Koski, Insulite samples and reclaim superintendent, retired this month after more than 40 years of service with Mando and Boise Cascade.

Mr. and Mrs. George Harrington, of 1105 Eighth St., were honored at an open house reception recently in the Faith United Church of Christ on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.

 

50 YEARS AGO

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Skifstad, 8 pounds, 9 ounces.

Former Broncos Dave and Mitch Skeim, Duayne Johnson and John Christie are presently making names for themselves on the Bemidji Beaver football team.

An open house at their home in Ericsburg on Oct. 21 honored Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Malmquist on their silver wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Nick Bonovich was honored recently at a pink and blue shower at the home of Mrs. Dennis Simons.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Ronald William Adams, 17, and Kenneth Johnson, both of South International Falls, left for Minneapolis to be assigned to an army training base.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Leckner, Gateway Cabins, 4 pounds, 5 ounces. Name chosen, Terry Lee.

Rowland Watson, 39, of Ericsburg, is a patient at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, for treatment of a moderately severe case of poliomyelitis.

Eugene Gray, believed to be Koochiching County’s oldest citizen, will celebrate his 96th birthday anniversary on Monday. Friends at Falls rest home where he resides are planning a birthday dinner for him.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Miss Mary Lou Parker, director of the junior class play, “Tomboy,” announced that Arthur Holmstrom has been given the part of John Abbot, a lawyer. Donald King, who was to take the part originally, is not able to play the part because of illness.

Falls High School students Mary Louise Hadler and Vincent Pulicicchio, who are accomplished musicians, have been selected to play with the All-State High School Orchestra at the annual convention of Minnesota Education Association in Minneapolis auditorium next week.

The families of John Kaupt and Robert Hagen left today for Superior, Wis., to make their home for the duration. Wenberg’s Transfer moved the two families’ furniture there.

Miss Doris Turry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Turry, will leave tonight for Chicago where she will be employed at the Hines’ Hospital, which is operated by the U.S. Veterans’ Administration.
