25 YEARS AGO

Myrtle and George Bahr celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this summer with many friends, relatives, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Janice Anderson, Mark Morff and Garner Clance are enrolled as undergraduate students at University of Wisconsin-Stout.

 

40 YEARS AGO

William “Bill” Martin, pulp mill superintendent, retires Oct. 31 and thus completes one of the longest working careers with Mando and Boise on record. In total, his service amounted to 52 years and three months having started on Aug. 1, 1920, when he was hired as a boy of 12 to pick bugs on the company farm.

Relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore A. Johnson of South International Falls gathered at the VFW last month to celebrate the couple’s golden wedding anniversary.

Lester E. Pollard, contract logging manager, will retire tomorrow after 45 1/2 years service with Mando and Boise Cascade.

 

50 YEARS AGO

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Chester Cullen, 7 pounds, 9 ounces.

A boy was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Arch, 8 pounds, 5 ounces.

A boy was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bishop, Rogers Route, 8 pounds.

Mrs. Mary Malerich has served the border city as faithful public servant for 25 1/2 years as water clerk. She is taking medical retirement effective tomorrow.

 

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lundquist, South International Falls, 6 pounds, 3 ounces. Name chosen, Linda Mae.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Carrier, weight, 8 pounds, 7 ounces.

A group of girls were recently entertained at the home of Mrs. William Sheppard on the occasion of her daughter Diane’s 10th birthday anniversary.

Ada DeRaad, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert DeRaad, was honored with a party at her home recently in celebration of her ninth birthday anniversary.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Besides taking care of her home and children, Mrs. Franz Larson, Crystal Beach, has found time since Sept. 9 to knit 13 pairs of mittens for the Red Cross.

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Blake and family left for the West Coast to make their home. Mr. and Mrs. Ole McLaughlin accompanied them and will also live there.

Mrs. Minnie Ayotte, formerly of Pitt, arrived here Saturday to make her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hardy. She was a resident of Pitt for 31 years and recently operated an oil station there.

George Sutch, who left for the Navy Friday, was guest of honor at a farewell party at the home of Mrs. Andrew Sutch, Brown’s Corner.
