Dave and Cathy Nevanen and Matthew wish to announce the birth of their daughter and sister, Kaari Catherine. She was born in Hutchinson today and weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long.
50 YEARS AGO
A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Piekarski, Lisa Marie, 9 pounds, 9 ounces.
New officers of the Falls Lassies 4-H Club are: Susan Makidon, president; Kathy Oveson, vice president; Wendy Shostakoski, treasurer; Maxine Lagerstrom, secretary; Shirley Piekarski, reporter; and Carol Lagerstrom, game leader.
Mary Ann Peterson and Linda Heem, Littlefork, who went to Minneapolis last week, both found work in Donaldson’s department store.
William Sutherland, 55, visiting teacher in the elementary schools for the past three years, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Falls Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to a heart ailment. Mr. Sutherland made his home on Forest Point, Rainy Lake.

Fifteen children were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Flaa, 1014 Third St., in honor of their daughter, Janet, who was 7 years old.
Mr. and Mrs. John Lovisa, 327 Third St. E., Fort Frances, announce the engagement of their daughter, Anita Palmira, to Warren Frank McIntosh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McIntosh, 439 Third St., Fort Frances.
Miss Alma Westberg, primary teacher at Alexander Baker School, is spending the weekend with Miss Audrey Saari at Cook. Miss Saari taught in the Falls the past two years.
Miss Gloria Hodel and Raymond Usiak exchanged marriage vows in St. Thomas Catholic Church Saturday.
70 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. Bowman Nyberg (Evelyn Francis) of Holler announce the birth of a daughter today at the Laurion Maternity Home.
Mrs. Floyd Fullwiler and Mrs. K.A. Milligan entertained at a shower at the Milligan home, Craig Apartments, complimenting Mrs. Roy Manley and Mrs. A.E. Lauring. A 1:30 luncheon was served to 12 guests.
Louis Wietecha, Mando papermaker, last week caught his right thumb in a paper machine’s reel and lost the tip of his member.
Ted Raymond, papermaker, left this vicinity last week for a job in a defense plant in Idaho.
