The Marshall H. and Nellie Alworth Memorial Fund board of directors has announced 79 new scholarship grants to students in addition to 303 renewals. Among those being awarded this scholarship was Debbie Anderson, daughter of Donald and Georgianne Peerbolte of International Falls.

Nancy Lee-Schafer, Littlefork, has been hired as a public health nurse for the Koochiching County Public Health Nursing Service.

Army Specialist Four Timothy J. Rud, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Rud of Ranier, is assigned to Battery A of the 20th Infantry Division’s 1st Battalion, 15th Field Artillery in Korea.

William R. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Miller of 1119 10th St., entered the United States Air Force Delayed Enlistment Program.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Dahl are new residents of Ray and are living in the former Arly Woods home.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Newcomers to International Falls are Mr. and Mrs. James Charles Kersten, who are residing at Brennen’s Beach, Island View Route. Kersten has assumed his duties as science teacher at Falls Junior High School, and his wife, the former Joan Lerrol of Edina, is employed at the public library.

Barbara Diane Keyes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.C. Keyes, Ericsburg, will enroll as a first-year student along with 290 other freshmen young people at Bethel College in St. Paul, as school begins on Sept. 13.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Savard, 1012 Ninth St., will be honored Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at their home on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Seven Falls people left this morning for Kenosha, Wis., to bring back new automobiles from the Nash factory for a local dealer. Planning to return Friday with new cars are George Bahr Jr., Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Ludwig, Nick Haponuk, Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Pfeifer and Thomas Schultz.

Miss Gloria Olson, South International Falls, was honored guest at a bridal shower Monday night in Ukrainian Hall.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin LaValla, weight, 5 pounds, 15 ounces. Name chosen, Lester.

A son was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Iver Cassibo, weight, 6 pounds, 11 ounces. Name chosen, Arthur Brian.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Buchholz (Martha Zdeb), 323 Ninth St., are parents of a daughter born today at Northern Minnesota Hospital. Jeanine Ann are the names chosen for the child.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Waldbillig (Loretta Schaedler) of this city are parents of a son born today at the Littlefork Hospital. Francis Nicholas are the names chosen for the child.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jean of Carson-Lupie announce the birth of a son today at the Laurion Maternity Home. The child weighed 11 pounds.

Mr. and Mrs. William Price, Jameson Addition, were pleasantly surprised when a large group of friends and neighbors gathered at their home to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
