Norman and Devonna Olsen, Boise Cascade employees with combined service of 55 years, have retired. Norman was a process engineer who worked in research for 30 years. Dee was an administrative specialist.

The children of Orin Tollefsrud wish to invite you to the 85th birthday celebration of their father at First Lutheran Church, Sept. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Maximillian Emil (M.E.) King, 92, pioneer and well-known resident of International Falls, died last evening at 8 o’clock, following an illness of several months.

Debbie and Ruth Schrock were overnight guests of Carolyn Schake, Loman, recently when Carolyn celebrated her 13th birthday.

As of next Tuesday, John (Jack) Cameron of Fort Frances, will be in charge of men and boys’ programs in physical fitness, aerobics and weight-lifting at the new Marcelle’s Health Club, so announced Marcelle Schaefer.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Jim Krohn, former Bronco star, is vying for the second team tackle position on the University of Minnesota football squad.

In a team trap shoot held last Sunday at the grounds located near the city dump, Cecil Jornlin’s team outshot Jack Franzen’s team 85 birds to 76 birds.

The Falls Broncos, sparked by the fine offensive and defensive play of Gerald Emery, turned back Chisholm in an even contest, 9-6 Friday night.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Leo Polus, Ranier, was honored guest at a stork shower at Ranier Community Building.

About 25 friends and relatives helped George Shehane Jr. celebrate his second birthday anniversary Sunday afternoon at the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Museta, 1400 First Ave. E.

Pfc. Benedict Stoltz, 320 Ninth St., recently spent a five-day vacation from Korea on a rest and recuperation leave in Japan.

Donald Demuth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Demuth, 1003 Ninth St., left Sunday for Bemidji to enroll at Bemidji State Teachers College.

 

70 YEARS AGO

From Harlingen Gunnery School in Texas comes word that John R. Stone has graduated as an aerial gunner and will soon carry the battle to the enemy in the stinger, bathtub or turret of a U.S. bomber.

Secunda Lucca, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Lucca, of Sawmill Addition, left Tuesday by bus for Wisconsin to enroll for studies at St. Nazaire College.

A group of friends entertained at a party at the J.A. McDonald home, 903 Sixth St., complimenting Mrs. Thomas P. White, who will leave soon for Western Canada to spend several months visiting her sister.

Vic Jr. and Cal Davis left Sunday for Minneapolis where they will attend the Minnesota School of Business.
