Airman Leland B. Ruport, son of Robert D. Ruport of International Falls, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force aircraft pneudraulic systems mechanic course at Chanute Air Force Base, Ill.

The old “staff house” is no more. Used for many years by the former Minnesota and Ontario Paper Company as a staff house for visiting officials and guests, the pioneer home at the corner of Second Street and Fifth Avenue today began its journey to South International Falls. There it will be remodeled into a group home for pre-delinquent youth. The home was built by Mando founder E.W. Backus for his son, Seymour, but it was never used as a private home. Frank Baron is the mover.

Lewis O. Anderson is the new Seventh-Day Adventist pastor who will serve the Falls, Blackduck, Hibbing and Virginia.
Girls from the VFW softball team who defeated the Littlefork girls’ team to win the women’s championship in a rugged 26-15 contest are Terry Cousineau, Valois Boettcher, Judie Monrean, Julie Brunette, Charlyn Reuter, Gail Gilbertson, Pam Bilben, Joyce Toninato, Della Timmer, Giney Jesperson and Bea Brown.
Donald David Dahlstrom, 33, 803 Ninth St., died at 6 p.m. in Falls Memorial Hospital from injuries received three hours earlier in a cave-in of the trench he was digging at Century Motor Freight, Inc., on Highway 11 east of the Falls.

A daughter was born today to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Craite, Ray, weight, 6 pounds, 4 ounces.
Otto F. Gookins, 70, of Cleveland, Ohio, father of Forrest Gookins, died Friday evening after being stricken at Sports Stadium, where he had witnessed the Falls-Hibbing game.
Miss Shirley Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Thompson, Loman Route, left today for Northfield to begin her sophomore year at St. Olaf College. Her brother, James, will leave Wednesday for the Pacific Coast to be employed.
WAF Airman Second Class Ella M. McGarvey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence L. Sandstrom, of International Falls, has been granted an honorable discharge by the Air Force.
70 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Corrin, son, Arthur, and daughter, Mrs. Larry Risk, left Friday for Chicago where they will visit Bill Corrin who is stationed with the Navy at Navy Pier.
Walter “Bud” Hickey, who is employed as a welder in the shipyard at Superior, Wis., spent last weekend here visiting relatives.
This week marks the last week that the Insulite mill will be honored by the presence of Johnny Carriveau. He is leaving soon and will pursue a new career under the able guidance of Uncle Sam.
Ora Hazen, Mando chief watchman, is on a week’s vacation. Ora utilized his vacation to drive his daughter Madonna back to her teaching post in southern Minnesota.
Morris F. Hanson, Grand Rapids, arrived this morning to take over the duties of manager of the meat department at the Minnesota Super Markets. Mr. Hanson will relieve Tony Miernicki, present manager, who will make his home in Superior, Wis.
