Army Reserve Private Edmond J. Morff, son of Doris W. Morff of 304 15th St. E., has completed a combat engineer course at the U.S. Army Training Center at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert LaVigne will be honored at an open house party Sept. 23 beginning at 9 p.m. in the Ukrainian Hall on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.

Nina M. Helmer re-joined the news staff of The Daily Journal this week after attending Anoka Technical Education Institute for the past two months.

A son was born today to Mr. and Mrs. John Beck.

A son was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Willis Scholler, Island View Route, 8 pounds, 6 ounces.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hall, 6 pounds, 3 1/4 ounces.

Jay Corrin, a member of the 1962 graduating class at Falls High, has been awarded a track scholarship by Michigan State University at East Lansing, Mich.

Mrs. Marjorie Zaren, Loman Route, announces the engagement of her daughter, Margaret, to Dino Morelli, Fort Frances.

 

60 YEARS AGO

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Custer, South International Falls, weight, 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

Three Broncos from last season’s football team, Roger Julien, Jerry Culbertson and Clifford A. (Tip) Carlson are at South Bend today where they have enrolled as freshmen at the University of Notre Dame.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Regal, 1110 11th St., weight, 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

Dale R. Williams, who enlisted in the Navy Seebees last June, arrived here to spend his leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Williams, 622 12th Ave.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Miss Rosemary Sullivan, 10, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sullivan, underwent an emergency appendectomy at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.

Mrs. LeRoy Lundquist was guest of honor at a stork shower at the A.C. Heritage home. Hostesses were Mrs. Heritage, Mrs. Leon Breneman and Miss Evelyn Thorp.

Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Bussmann entertained at a dinner party at their home on Rainy Lake complimenting William Currie of this city on his 74th birthday.

Paul Woodbridge, an employee of the Mando Insulite division since 1929, has resigned his job and will devote his full time to operation of his farm near Ray.
