Former Falls resident Dale Erickson, a registered nurse in the medical-surgical unit at Bartlett Memorial Hospital in Juneau, Alaska, was recently awarded the Frist Humanitarian Award as outstanding employee of 1987. Erickson is the son of Marlene and Swede Erickson.

Jeanne Veeder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Veeder, Ranier Road, will be among the 166 freshmen who will be formally received into the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph. Mary Ellen Burrock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Burrock, 912 Second St., a junior at the College of St. Benedict, is a member of the production staff that has charge of the traditional induction ceremony.
Paul Thorpe, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thorpe of Lake Kabetogama, is confined to the Littlefork Hospital receiving care for a fractured leg which he suffered while playing ball at school.
Miss Dorothy Johnson, Ray North Road, celebrated her 15th birthday Wednesday evening with a party given by Mrs. Earl Anderson. Dorothy’s uncle, Orville Larson, his wife and two children, and Mr. and Mrs. John Roslee, all of the Falls, were among those present.
Judith Swenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Swenson, Point O’Pines, graduated Sept. 14 from St. Luke’s School of Nursing.

Russell Hall, son of Mrs. Ellen Hall, French Addition, returned home after two years of Army service and seventh months in Korea.
Orin Tollefsrud Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Orin Tollefsrud, 1203 Third St., left today for Minneapolis to enroll in his junior year at University of Minnesota. He is majoring in civil engineering and business administration.
A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Gene Christenson, Ranier, weight, 6 pounds, 2 ounces. Name chosen, Pennee Lin.
A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bogart, weight, 7 pounds, 7 ounces.
70 YEARS AGO
Mrs. Carl Molander, who will leave next week to make her home at Grand Forks, N.D., was guest of honor at a surprise party at the home of Mrs. Arthur Kaufman.
Misses Joan Franzen and Patricia Norton left for Duluth where they are students at the Villa Sancta Scholastica.
Ed Metcalf, Mando electrical department, left the company employ this week for work in a defense plant. This is the 11th electrical department worker to enter defense work or the armed service.
Winston Schmidt of Ranier who enlisted in the Navy two weeks ago, left Minneapolis for the West Coast where he will receive basic training.
