Shawn Sheehy, Rainy River Junior College forward, was voted the most improved hockey player of Minnesota’s Junior A summer hockey league.

Safe-Buy Real Estate Agency, Inc., today announced the appointment of Alden (Sonny) Wold, 23, as branch manager. Wold graduated from Falls High School in 1967 and has been self employed as a carpenter since that time.

 

50 YEARS AGO

A baby was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Locken, 5 pounds, 13 ounces.

Sigurd Ludvig Wenberg, 71, better known as Sig and a familiar border city personality, died about 5 a.m. Saturday at Falls Memorial Hospital. He founded the Wenberg Transfer Company in 1924 and in more recent years operated the business with his son, John, with the assistance of Walter Mahle and Gene Aklestad.

A boy was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Boes, 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

Wallace Watson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Watson, Ericsburg, left his home Sept. 12 for Tennessee Temple University, Chattanooga, Tenn., after spending the summer months with his parents and employed at Mando.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Border Publishing Company shop employees and their wives met for a dinner party to honor two of their number. Eugene Holler, veteran printer, who plans to retire this month, and Gerald Smith, compositor, who is leaving the city, were honored guests.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Grill are living in the house formerly occupied by Mrs. Lillian Woessner and Mrs. Delores Fillbrant, South International Falls.

Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Crawford of Loman were honored at a surprise wedding anniversary party Saturday evening at the John Budris home.

Rube Julien’s partridge dinner flew virtually into his hands. Julien and Gene LeDuc were walking past the Melody Shop yesterday afternoon when a partridge flew into the window pane of the store. The bird broke its neck and fell to the sidewalk in front of Julien. Julien enjoyed a partridge dinner last evening.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. William Johnston of Sawmill Addition, who will leave this evening for Longview, Wash., to join Mr. Johnston and make her home, was guest of honor at a farewell party at the home of Mrs. John Sutliffe.

George H. Porter, chief air raid warden for Koochiching County, received another assignment and added responsibilities Monday night when the city council appointed him director of emergence services for International Falls, a civilian post created by the new ordinance No. 235.

Mrs. Leon Fuller (Dorothy Valentine) who visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Valentine, was guest of honor at a party Saturday.

Pvt. Paul Couture who has been stationed at Camp Shelby, Miss., writes that the only person from the Falls he has met during his basic training period is Johnny Fritz.
