David Englund, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Englund, 719 Sixth St., has enrolled as a sophomore at Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology at Butte, Mont.

Lynn Corrin, Duane Foss, Larry Rehn, Linda Wahlberg and Janice Weum have returned to Augsburg College in Minneapolis for the 1972-73 academic year.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Principal F. Miles Nelson of Falls High School announced that senior Fred L. Mannausau has been named semi-finalist in the 1962-63 Merit Scholarship Competition.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. William Lynch, 7 pounds.

Mrs. Gerald Sumner and infant son, Brian, were guests of honor at a baby shower held Monday evening in the home of Mrs. Chet Sumner, 1516 Second Ave. W.

Congratulations of their friends and neighbors were in order for Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. May, 212 Third St. W., who noted their 59th wedding anniversary Sept. 23. Mr. and Mrs. May passed the event quietly in their home, there having been no observance planned for this year.

Mr. and Mrs. Benno Pries, 1108 Eighth St., announce the engagement of their daughter, Elaine, to Eugene L. Beach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Beach, 916 Sixth St.

Miss Marion Ruth Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Williams, 617 First St. E., Fort Frances, and William McLeod Gow, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Gow of Kenora, were married Saturday in Knox United Church.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Young, 1105 Eighth Ave., weight, 7 pounds, 2 ounces.

Julius Sher, 519 Fifth St., has been confined to Mount Sinai Hospital, Minneapolis, since Wednesday morning when he suffered a heart attack.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Joe Batdorf of Ericsburg entertained Sunday evening for her son, Fred, who will leave for Army induction Sept. 28.

Inspector Carl Molander of the Immigration Border Patrol left this week for Grand Forks, N.D., to join the patrol headquarters staff.

Armas Ekman, Mando stores department, has resigned his position and is now working on the ore docks at Duluth.

Hartman Brothern, Mando Insulite digester, has resigned from company employment. He has accepted employment in the Puget Sound district.
