School District 361 board members recently hired Laureen Scholler as a two-hour cafeteria helper and Cheryl Carlson was hired as a teacher’s aide.

 

40 YEARS AGO

E.L. “Andy” Anderson, owner of City Drug, today announced plans for a new building to house his drug store. The new building will be erected on two lots at 312 Third St., a location previously occupied by the Totem Pole and Christensen Jewelry stores.

The Rev. Fr. Jerome (Jerry) Ward, OMI, has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nordlund of Littlefork will be honored at an open house event in their home Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Recently returned from attending the Fourth Annual Olympic Skating school in Winnipeg is Judy Kukuk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kukuk, of the border city.

Johanna Marie, 6-month-old adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon J. Larsen, 1021 Ninth St., was baptized Sunday at St. Thomas Catholic Church by The Rev. Fr. Joseph Pitts, OMI. Godparents were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Pelowski.

Miss Diane Blais of the Falls has graduated from Eastern Air Lines’ flight attendant school in Miami, Fla., and started her career as an EAL stewardess.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Merle Carlson, Island View Route, 8 pounds, 12 ounces.

 

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Boyd, weight, 7 pounds, 2 ounces. Name chosen, Jahn Leslie.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nordrum, weight, 9 pounds, 11 ounces.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lutz, South International Falls, entertained 20 friends at their home Saturday evening in celebration of their 20th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Dorland Nielson, 321 Seventh St., was honored at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. Roy Lutz, South International Falls.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. James B. Kirk, 906 Sixth St., are parents of a son born Sept. 3 at the Laurion Maternity Home. The child will be named James B. Jr. Mr. Kirk is in the U.S. Marines.

A farewell party was held for Robert Gazley and Walter Freden at the Ericsburg Hall. Mr. Gazley left for Fort Snelling to report to the Army and Mr. Freden will leave Sept. 9.

Mrs. Ernest Crosby and sons, Randy and Brian, left for Chicago to join Mr. Crosby, who is employed in a defense plant.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rogan have received word from their son, Bryce, who enlisted in the Army and left here Aug. 3. He is stationed at Camp Swift, Texas.
