Debbie Liggett, 32, has been hired to work at the Rainy Lake Visitors Center in Voyageurs National Park.

The engagement of Miss Susan Kay Grotberg to Terrence R. Worthman is announced by her parents, Mrs. Betty Grotberg, 1122 10th St., and Vernon Grotberg of Littlefork.

Mrs. Crystal Clance is starting her fourth year as director of Northland Day Activity Center and Margaret Thomasson is just beginning as head teacher.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Anderson’s Furniture won the “A” league softball championship. Team members are Frank Schaaf, Roy Krats, Carl Belanger, Don Frank, Gene Rasmussen, Don Milette, Roger Bolstad, Bob Bolstad and Leonard Milette.

Miss Pamela Davis of International Falls, a 1962 graduate of Falls High School, has been granted the Mando-Macalester College scholarship for the 1962-63 academic year.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Barstad of Littlefork will be honored Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Littlefork Lutheran Church. The occasion is the 25th wedding anniversary of the couple.

Airman 1/c Randall W. Borden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Borden, 1223 Third Ave., arrived Sunday for a furlough at the home of his parents.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Laird, Rainy Lake, received a telephone call from their son, Lawrence Laird, airman, third class, stationed at Nagoya, Japan, on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Haugland, 708 10th St., weight, 8 pounds, 5 ounces.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Colin Chisholm, weight, 6 pounds, 2 ounces.

Mrs. Lars Olson, long-time resident of the border area was guest of honor at a birthday party and family reunion last week at her farm home near Loman. Mrs. Olson operated a cafe in the Falls before moving to Loman.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Anna Piekarski of Little Falls announces the marriage of her daughter, Gertrude, of this city, to Edward Schiller of Ranier. They will make their home in Ranier.

Two members of the Early family, Bernard and Robert, are doing their bit for Uncle Sam. Bernard is in Florida with the Army Air Warning Service while Robert is with the Pacific fleet.

Nels Ogren, 80-year-old head of a large and highly respected International Falls family bearing the name, passed away Thursday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Albert Williams, Carson-Lupie Addition.

Miss Mae Dahl of Virginia has accepted the position of head librarian at the public library here to replace Miss Agatha Lindner who will be employed in the Minnesota State Library Division.
