The Falls High School “A” squad majorettes have new uniforms. Majorettes are Tina Milette, Tammy Taylor, Raedean Lee, Beth Borden, Kristy Melbo, Teri Evertt and Sherie Dion.

Miss Linda Henningsgaard, daughter of Mrs. Arthur Henningsgaard of Madison, Wis., and Peter Fichuk Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Fichuk Sr., 1325 Ninth Ave., were united in marriage Sept. 5 during a 4 o’clock ceremony in Faith Lutheran Church at Madison.
A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lundquist.
50 YEARS AGO
A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sumner, 6 pounds, 15 ounces.
An informal open house in honor of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Nilson, Sunset Cove, will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. this Sunday in the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nilson, 1315 Ninth St.
Glenda Jo Cook, who will be a September bride, was feted at a bridal shower recently at the Methodist Church parlors.
Fr. Carl Kabat, OMI, arrived last week to take up his duties as assistant at St. Thomas Church. Fr. Kabat joins his classmate, Fr. Joseph Pitts, as assistant at St. Thomas.
60 YEARS AGO
The M.E. Withrow residence at 901 Riverside Drive, landmark of the International Falls residential district since 1910, soon will have new occupants. Mrs. Withrow, civic leader and widow of the pioneer physician who died in 1948, this week confirmed reports that she has sold the house to Mr. and Mrs. F.F. Alexander, presently residing at 429 1/2 Third St.
Members of the American Legion post will have an opportunity to inspect their new organization’s new clubrooms at 220 Third St. (former King Joy building) Wednesday night when the new quarters are formally opened. Fritz Vonder Haar is manager of the club. He is assisted by Louis Tipple and Mrs. Delores Holler.
Ronald Frohrip, Charles Johnson and Richard Allen will enroll as freshmen at St. John’s College, Collegeville.
A partridge dropped in at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Dunahee in South International Falls. Village Clerk Garfield Gauthier and Carl Breske, neighbors, entered the house in response to a cry of “something went through the window” shrilled by John Dunahee, 6. They found a young hen partridge setting pertly on the davenport surrounded by broken glass.

Carol McCabe, proprietor of the Crystal Beach store and resort, today announced the opening of public picnic grounds on her lakeshore and invited local families to “come out and enjoy yourself.”
Payment of double-time rates for work on any particular day in the week such as Saturday, Sunday or holidays was discontinued today by a presidential order. The decree, signed by President Roosevelt, was intended, the White House said, to encourage one day of rest in seven “in the interest of efficiency.”
Mr. and Mrs. C. Torp left today for the Twin Cities where they will make their home. Mr. Torp, well-known accordionist, has accepted a defense position in Minneapolis.
Sgt. Ernest M. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Johnson, Crystal Beach, arrived from Camp Wolters, Texas, to spend a furlough with his parents and friends.
