For three members of the Whispering Pines Quilt Guild — Sue Anderson, Pam Moss, and Donna LaJambe — there is nothing they love to do more than quilt.

“I sew every single day, unless I’m sick,” Moss said with a laugh.

In a combined effort to display their quilted artwork and raise money for the Falls Hunger Coalition, the group is featuring the sixth annual community quilt show Friday and Saturday at the Evangelical Covenant Church. Friday’s show will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday’s will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“This show is to present our quilts to the community,” Moss said.

All proceeds from the show will be donated to the food shelf. Last year, the guild was able to provide more than $2,000 to the organization.

For those who have attended the show in previous years, new additions are expected for this year’s event.

“We’ll be having a sale table,” Anderson explained.

On the table will be a variety of quilting goodies to pick from including sewing machine covers, table runners, pin cushions, knitted hats and more.

“We’re looking for a way to raise a few more funds,” Anderson said of adding the sale table. “We have found in previous years, we’re raising about the same amount and we hope this table will increase our total.”

The Whispering Pines Quilt Guild is made up of 35 members who came together following the first quilt show in 2005.

“We were hoping that by having a show, we’d get people interested in becoming members,” Anderson said.

“That is how I became involved,” Moss said.

Show goers can expect to see a wide variety of work by members of the guild, but also from anyone in the area wishing to contribute their quilted items for others to view.

“It is amazing how many talented people we have in this community,” LaJambe said. “There are even some men who quilt.”

Last year, more than 200 quilts were showcased at the club’s event.

“People are usually surprised by all the beautiful quilts,” Anderson said. “Some come both days because they didn’t get to see everything in just one.”

By attending the show, everyone becomes eligible to win a door prize. The prize is a quilt made by guild members.

“Every year, they get better and prettier,” LaJambe said of the door prize.

During the show, beginning at 11 a.m., and running every hour thereafter, demonstrations on quilting and other hand crafts will be offered.

“This show is the thing of the year for us,” LaJambe said.

“Right after we complete this show, we’ll start on ideas for next year,” Anderson added.

Admission to the quilt show is a non-perishable food item or monetary donation.
