To wrap up the Borderland Concert Association series, Metales M5, a young Mexican brass quintet, will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Backus Community Center Auditorium.
A release compares Metales M5 with the popular Mariachi Band. And while the music of the two groups is similar, Metales M5 plays not only Mariachi music, but also classical, jazz and pop music.
The band’s programming is balanced between classical pieces — played in costume — and jazz tunes including a segment of “007” music. The band finishes its show with rousing Mexican folk tunes, including a bullfight scene.
Each member of Metales M5 has an extensive professional background with his respective brass instrument, according to press information on the band. Holding degrees from universities in Germany and Mexico City, the musicians have played in the symphony orchestras of Bremen, Berlin, Monterrey, Guanajuato, Mexico City, Acapulco and Aguascalientes.
Their unique style combining chamber music with popular entertainment makes Metales M5 one of a kind, say organizers.
