Dennis Warner, folk and Americana singer and songwriter, will return to International Falls for a solo family-oriented concert at 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Pete Peterson Bandshell in Smokey Bear Park. The event is sponsored by the International Falls Public Library and celebrates the end of the children’s summer reading program. It is a free event and open to the public.
Warner grew up in Minnesota and travels all around the country and beyond. He performed in International Falls in 2005.
“It’s been a few years since I’ve been in International Falls, so I’m really looking forward to coming back,” Warner told The Journal in an email. “I’ve had several wonderful concerts in (International Falls) in the past, and it’s always good to support a town library.”
A release said Warner is noted for blending humor, up-tempo and serious music into a fun and memorable concert for all ages.
Warner has been a guest on numerous television and radio programs. In recognition for his songwriting, he accepted an invitation to perform in concert at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
In January, Warner released his ninth CD, “Seeds,” which immediately began receiving radio airplay throughout the U.S. and other countries, according to a release. “Seeds” reached No. 12 for airplay on the worldwide folk music radio charts. Warner produced the album in his own recording studio and it features him as a solo artist as well as with his longtime band, “The D’s.” Several of his friends join in with guest appearances from Prince and Bonnie Raitt along with other Minnesota musical icons including Paul Diethelm, Mike Zeleny, Glen Everhart, Pat Curto and Jeff Engholm.
Warner has also written and released a children’s book, “Beads on a String.” Already in its fourth printing, the book has become a favorite with teachers, parents and kids for its powerful, positive message of unity along with beautiful illustrations, according to a release.
“Throughout the country, I’ve performed as a part of library summer reading programs over 1,000 times and love how communities comes together in support of their kids and reading,” Warner concluded.
The musician encourages those attending his show to bring a lawn chair or blanket. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be moved inside the library. For more information, visit www.warnersongs.com.
