Our dementia caregivers group met Sept. 3 at the Holiday Inn. This was a very encouraging meeting as we had a number of new people attend. This makes it all worthwhile. So, those of you that did attend, we really appreciate your coming.

Leslee Loop was also in attendance; she is the coordinator for the aging. She brought a number of new materials that she had been sent for group. While there she discussed some of the work she is involved with her new job.

We had a chance to introduce ourselves, then we told of some of the situations that we had with our loved ones. All of us had different stories to tell of the situations we had gone through in the past.

For instance, support their intact abilities for instance. If they like to bake, let them be there and aid them help to check the recipe, or the oven temperature. This helps to maintain a sense of control and self-worth. Saying no should be for the safety, health and well being of the person. Do not restrict the person, but saying no is part of caregiving as they lose some of their abilities to do certain tasks. You have to adjust and help them in any way that you can make it safe for them. Try to minimize the risks they may want to do. This is not always easy to do, and you sometimes have to take action.

Our next meeting will take place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn. All are welcome.
