Summer Reading continues at the library for all ages. The children’s summer reading program, “One World, Many Stories,” rewards children who keep track of the amount of time they read and are read to. They can receive prizes at 5, 10, 15 and 25 hours read.

The teen and adult summer reading programs only provide prizes at the end of summer. For each book read, teens and adults can fill out a bookmark about the book read and place in the container for the prize they would like to win. The more books read, the greater the chance to win.

The library is delighted to have its centennial be the theme of the Independence Day parade. Library staff is honored to be asked to be grand marshals in the parade. Look for us and wave as we pass by.

Each Tuesday the library has a craft project available in the library meeting room or the junior room as needed. Monday we change the photograph in the weekly contest and Friday we change the travel trivia question. Lots of special activities happening in the junior room this summer, be sure to read all about it in the summer reading packet.

Teen gaming will be held at the library on Tuesday, July 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. as well as Tuesday, July 19 from 6 to 8. Any teen entering grades 7 or above is welcome to come and spend a couple of hours gaming. We have a variety of games for the PS3 and Wii. We also have a wide variety of board games both old classics and new challenges. Refreshments are provided and there is no need to register, just come and have fun.

The library has never had a program on Saturday in the summer, but that is when we could get Titambe West African Dance Ensemble. So be sure to mark your calendar and come enjoy this vibrant, exciting program on Saturday, July 9, at 5:30 p.m. at Smokey Bear Park. We’ll follow up the performance with a pizza dinner for those attending the concert.

Thursday morning, July 2, from 10 a.m. to noon, the library will make the gaming equipment available for families. Come spend time together as a family and enjoy games new and old. All children need to be accompanied by an adult.

The last day for children to register that they have read (or been read to) 10 hours and sign up for a T-shirt is Thursday, July 28. T-shirts will be available for pick-up beginning at the summer reading finale picnic on Thursday, Aug. 4. The summer reading t-shirt this year commemorates the library’s centennial, adults are welcome to order shirts, prepaid at $10 a piece, also by Thursday, July 28.
