The women of the St. Paul Lutheran Ladies Aid are busy baking and preparing dozens of cookies for the church’s 20th annual cookie walk from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 1 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
“This is something we look forward to every year,” said Bev Moorhead, a member of the organization.
The cookie walk is a chance for members of the community to purchase holiday cookies and avoid the hassle of baking the tasty treats themselves. An assortment of cookies will be displayed for sale at $6 per pound.
“When you think of it, it really is an excellent way to get all your Christmas baking done,” Moorhead said. “And you don’t have to buy ingredients or clean up a mess.”
The cookie walk is the brainchild of one of the church’s former pastors. In the 20 years it has existed, Moorhead and other members of the church noted it has grown into “quite the event.”
“It’s amazing to see the people who come to buy cookies for all kinds of reasons,” said member Jeanette Aitchison.
Organizers of the event expect more than 4,500 cookies to be baked for the sale.
“We have about 60-65 women each baking at least six dozen cookies,” Moorhead said.
In addition to treating everyone’s sweet tooth, members say the community is welcome to a luncheon provided by the church. The lunch costs $6 per plate and carry out containers are also available.
“We want to make it a fun experience for everyone,” Moorhead said. “We love doing this. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be doing it.”
Proceeds from both the cookie walk and luncheon will go toward different organizations and charities the group funds. Among those supported are: Lutheran Heritage Foundation, Falls Hunger Coalition, and Friends Against Abuse.
“We expect the day to be a fun one,” Moorhead said. “It is always enjoyable to watch people pick out their cookies. For some, it is quite the race. In past years, we’ve had people lined up at the door waiting for 11 a.m. to start picking out their cookies.”
