The library has recently added a lot of new material to the Vigilance collection including a number of books by Dr. Gary Null, a well-known public television presenter and prolific author.
The Food-Mood Connection offers nutritional and environmental approaches to mental health and physical wellbeing. He outlines how the food we eat and other environmental factors cause or exacerbate mental disorders including addictions, anxiety disorders, depression and more. This revised edition also includes disorders more common in older adults such as brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease.
The Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing is a comprehensive A-Z listing of common and chronic illnesses and their proven natural treatments. He continues his approach to health through food in Gary Null’s Power Foods. The book looks at the 15 best foods for your health and includes over 300 recipes, menus and a comprehensive eating plan for optimal health.
Get Healthy Now! is a complete guide to prevention, treatment, and healthy living. The book includes a guide for selecting an alternative health practitioner. Be a Healthy Woman! is a resource for those issues affecting primarily females. It features the most-up-to-date clinical experiences and published research, covering topics as diverse as physical fitness, depression, PMS, fibromyalgia and menopause. This book also gives advice on stocking a Natural Medicine Cabinet.
Dr. Gary Null maintains a Web site with links to listen to his radio broadcast online daily. Our Vigilance Collection Web site contains a link to his site. Visit internationalfallslibrary.us/vigilance.html for links to a variety of Web sites that will help you obtain information about alternative health, energy and more. A link for the Ebsco “Consumer Health Complete” is also available on this Web page. Consumer Health Complete is a full text database to traditional western and alternative health information, all in one place. A library card number or password will be required to access this site from home.
The Vigilance collection also has a number of magazine subscriptions to aid in your search for information. Of particular note, Townsend Letter is the examiner of alternative medicine. The most recent issue looked at neurotoxins, irritable bowel syndrome, and immune system health. For the farmer or person interested in providing more of their own food and energy resources, be sure to borrow issues of Grit, Backwoods Home, or Progressive Farmer. All three magazines focus on rural issues from heirloom apples, to hunting season, to broadband access in rural America. We have also begun a subscription to Mother Jones. This magazine is published by the Foundation for National Progress and produces revelatory journalism, that seeks to inform and inspire a more just and democratic world. Back issues of all these magazines are available to borrow at the library.
