With the sixth annual Power of the Purse just two weeks away, organizers are hopeful that this year’s event will be see the best turnout to date.
Organizers of the highly-anticipated girl’s night out say that because of the positive community response in the past, this year the Nov. 2 gathering will be held at Lenard’s in the AmericInn.
“Due to the overwhelming response by the community — as we have sold out each year — we needed a bigger venue,” said Julie Ehrman, one of the event’s organizers.
The evening will kick off at with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner, wine tasting, auctions, raffles, and of course fun, Ehrman said.
“It’s an evening devoted to women which celebrates all that is feminine,” she added. “This is a great opportunity to spend time with friends and family while making a difference in your community.”
The event is one of the local United Way’s biggest fundraisers and all proceeds from the fun-filled night will go right back into the community to focus on children in poverty within Koochiching County, Ehrman explained.
Last year’s event brought in $15,000 — just short of organizers’ goal of $20,000. This year, Ehrman said the group set its sites on exceeding last year’s total.
She noted that some of the big ticket items up for grabs during the event are designer purses, casino trips, Vikings tickets, a Kindle Fire and more.
“People were calling board members weeks in advance requesting tickets,” Ehrman said. “There seems to be a great deal of excitement around attending the event.”
Tickets are available for $45 each, which includes dinner, wine tasting, and a chance to win a Coach purse.
Tickets are on sale only at City Drug this year. Ehrman said there are only 200 available and about half have already been purchased.
“We are encouraging women to get their tickets as soon as possible,” she said.
