The school year is reaching its long stretch. We’re past 100 days, but the end isn’t quite in sight. Now is the time to reach deep and maintain those reading habits. Read, read, read! It will stand you in good stead your entire life, reading is never wasted. It can be hard to find something interesting when you are dealing with the late winter blahs. Try these on for size. We’ve some great new titles in the junior room.

Mr. and Mrs. Bunny — Detectives Extraordinary by Mrs. Bunny translated from the Rabbit by Polly Horvath is a delightful, silly fun mystery and adventure. Madeline is a young girl with hippies for parents. She is the responsible one so when they are kidnapped (adult napped) by foxes it is up to her to get them back and Mr. and Mrs. Bunny agree to help.

The Case of the Deadly Desperados by Caroline Lawrence is a set in 1862 and P. K. Pinkerton is on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of Whittlin Walt and his gang of ruthless desperados. This is a mystery and adventure story sure to keep readers on the edge of their seat from the very beginning. The Aviary by Kathleen O’Dell ‘weaves magic, secret identities, sinister villains, unlikely heroes and friendship into a shivery mystery adventure that readers won’t soon forget.’ And The Cheshire Cheese Cat by Carmen Agra Deedy and Randall Wright will have you laughing, hooting and cheering as the mice at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese work to save the entire British Empire from disaster as predicted by Maldwyn the mysterious creature of the attic.

The picture book crowd are sure to be pleased by the following titles, Dust Devil by Anne Isaacs, a sequel to Swamp Angel.  The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse by Eric Carle will encourage all of us to be confident of our skills and creativity. And we’ll end with three books that celebrate books, libraries and reading. How to Teach a Slug to Read by Susan Pearson gives ten easy steps to reading on your own. Otto the Book Bear by Katie Cleminson journeys with Otto as he tries to find a new book and Dinosaur vs. the Library by Bob Shea will be a classic in years to come.
