The Border Concert Association will open its 66th season Tuesday when the band Redhead Express performs at the Backus Community Center auditorium.

The bluegrass, gospel and “old-timey music” concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be the first in the five-part BCA 2010-2011 series.

“We’re in for a real treat,” Paul Folin, of Allied Concert Services, told the BCA Board recently. “It really is a full family affair now.” BCA works with Allied Concert Services to bring the concerts to Borderland.

BCA tickets are still available for the five-show season. Tickets are $45 for adults, $10 for students and $95 for a family. Tickets are on sale at Backus, City Drug, International Falls SuperValu, and Border State Bank as well as in neighboring cities.

Redhead Express is a family band, originally from Alaska, that moved to the continental U.S. to pursue the dreams of performing. The band is led by four teenage daughters, who are often accompanied by their parents and three younger brothers.

Since 2008, the band has performed at the Dutton Family Theater in Branson, Mo., and has been nominated for several awards. It also tours around the country.

Redhead Express shows include some original pieces, as well as the family’s take on classic bluegrass and gospel tunes. Examples from their set list includes “When Will I Be Loved,” “I am a Man of Constant Sorrow” and “Dueling Banjos.”
