Nancy McBride has a vision of bringing the community together through harmony.

To make this a reality, she has organized Rock the Border III which will take the Backus Community Center stage Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

“Basically what I’m doing is drawing from area musicians and show casing the talent we have in the community,” McBride said.

The theme of this year’s event is local performers presenting harmony found in classic rock and folk rock.

“Part of my reasoning for harmony is because I think that it is a symbol of getting along and working together,” McBride said.

Each performer in the show has volunteered his or her time to help raise money for Backus.

McBride predicts audiences can expect a 90-minute show with an intermission.

“There really is something for everybody,” McBride said of the show.

She added that some people may steer away from attending Rock the Border III, thinking that only hard rock music is being performed. She explained that isn’t the case.

“It isn’t heavy metal.” she said. “Our deal is not to drive people out. It’s not some head-banging rock and roll thing. There is acoustical stuff happening, ukeleles, violins and a ccepella.”

Musicians from both sides of the border will be featured in the production. Among those expected to perform at the concert are local groups Faith and the Believers II and a few members of the Birchdale-based band Ditchgrade.

“There are no real stars in the show,” McBride said. “The show is about everybody. The amount of talent that is in this community never ceases to amaze me. You don’t have to go to the big city to see really good musicians. They’re here.”

Advance tickets to the show are available at City Drug, Backus and Betty’s in Fort Frances. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. The cost is $10 for adults; $5 for students, and $25 for families. Kids ages 5 and under are free.
