Tomorrow, Thursday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m. will be the last storytime of the school year. Join us for stories, rhymes, songs and more as we explore gardening. Storytime is an excellent opportunity to introduce young children to the library and reading. We spend 20 to 30 minutes reading stories, singing songs and occasionally doing an activity around a common theme. The program is geared to children ages 3 to 5 but all are welcome to attend. Because it is the last storytime and we’re reading about gardening, we will provide all children attending the change to plant their own seeds at the end of storytime.
It is almost May! The library has a couple of programs that we’re very excited about next month. Photographer John Gregor of Coldsnap Photography will be back to do a two-part evening class. Join us on Tuesday, May 8, from 6:30 to about 8:30 p.m. as he does an overview of people photography and then a session on nature photography. Each session will be about 45 minutes and all are welcome to attend one or both sessions. The program is geared for teens and adults of all levels of photography.
The monthly Friends of the Library book sale will be Thursday, May 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. All sales are by donation with the proceeds benefiting the Friends support of the library. Come stock up for your summer reading. We have lots of new, old books just waiting to be read again.
Gardeners, bring your questions! Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Garden Girls club will present a gardening program and sale. A number of community members with gardening experience will be on hand to answer questions, provide suggestions and provide direction. Free copies of the University of Minnesota extension guidebook “Minnesota Hardy: Showcasing new and enduring plants for your landscape” will be available. The club will also offer a variety of plants and pots for sale. The library will have a display of books available for checkout. Don’t miss this opportunity!
Even though we have fewer programs in May, I encourage you to stop by and check out a book or movie. The library has great titles. I’m sure we can find something to please everyone. You might have to wait to read the latest bestseller or even the hot title that ‘all’ your friends are reading, but we can find something to tide you over until it is your turn.
And of course, don’t forget the library website which provides you access to the catalog where you can request your own materials and see what you have checked out and more. The library website also has a number of booklists. The website can be found at http://internationalfallslibrary.us. Take a look and see what you can find.
The last Saturday the library is open until fall will be Saturday, May 19. Summer hours will begin on Monday, May 21. The library will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day.
