Students will be featured Jan. 30 in talent show

All area students who would like to present their talent at the Borderland Musical Showcase, a public concert to be held at the end of January, are encouraged to participate in auditions set for Thursday.

Borderland Musical Showcase will feature the talents of local students in kindergarten through high school, and is co-sponsored by Backus Community Center and Tuesday Musicale. The concert is not a competition.

Auditions for the performance are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Thursday in Backus Auditorium. All area students are welcome and all ages and levels of musical skill may perform. Those interested are asked to call the Backus office at 285-7225.

Marcia Bringedahl of Tuesday Musicale told The Journal that the auditioning process will be used to help format the show.

“We don’t want students to be intimidated by the audition process, but feel we need to have an idea of the number of students participating and also the type of selections that they will be performing,” Bringedahl said.

Soloists, groups, choirs, pianists, dancers, and drama acts are welcome to participate. Music instructors in local and area schools, along with private music and dance instructors, have been asked to encourage their students to perform at this concert.

Bringedahl also emphasized that any student is eligible to participate. “Not only those involved in choirs, bands, etc. in the schools,” she said. “Home-schooled students are also welcome — as well as students from Littlefork, Indus and surrounding communities.”

Sponsors of the showcase feel that this is an opportunity for students interested in music, arts and drama to play or act on stage in a professional concert venue. Several former Tuesday Musicale Summer Music Camp Scholarship recipients will also be performing.

Anyone wishing to perform will be asked to fill out a registration form at Backus the day of the auditions.

For additional information, contact Bringedahl at 286-3318; Mona Ostroot at 283-4229; Shar Schaak at 286-5271, or students’ music instructors.

The public is invited to attend the Borderland Musical Showcase, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, in Backus Auditorium. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students of all ages through high school.

The proceeds will benefit the Tuesday Musicale Music Camp Scholarship program and Backus Community Center projects.

A Top the Tater supper for the public, sponsored by Super One Foods and The Hideaway, will precede the concert from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Refreshments will also be available during the concert intermission.
