Borderland-area students and adults are invited to participate in the 2012 Summer Band. Rehearsals for the group begin June 5 and will continue through June 28.
The ensemble is led by well-known local director John Faith and will be assisted by other area band directors.
The Monday through Thursday rehearsals are scheduled for 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in The Dungeon, which is in the basement of the Backus Community Center. Officials note that musicians may attend either or both sessions.
A June 13 concert is scheduled for the band at the Pete Peterson Band Shell in Smokey Bear Park. The Summer Band will also perform during the Fourth of July parade and afterward at the band shell.
No registration for a spot in the band is necessary. Musicians may just come to the first rehearsal or call Faith at 286-3281.
A $25 fee is required to participate. Music and stands are provided, however, participants need to bring their own instruments.
