I hope everyone has a book that they are reading. If your summer is anything like mine, it may take you a long time to read an entire book, but it is good to always have something you are reading, even if you only get a couple of pages read a day. And what can be better than sitting at the cabin on a warm, rainy day and reading.

Kristin Hannah has a new book called Home Front. This time she explores the intimate landscape of a troubled marriage in love and at war as Jolene is unexpectedly deployed, leaving her husband a defense attorney to parent alone their two girls.

Little Girl Gone by Drusilla Campbell is a riveting story of the hopes and fears that drive good people to do dangerous things and the courage it takes to make things right. Madora was rescued by Willis at seventeen and they have lived in isolation for the last five years. But things have changed and Madora must face the truth of what is happening.

Sam Skarda, ex-police detective, current P. I., lives in Minneapolis and has been hired to investigate an insider plot to sell the publicly owned Green Bay Packers to a private buyer in Frozen Tundra by Rick Shefchik. Come explore the creepy underbelly of professional sports and hang on for more twists and turns than imaginable.

A fascinating historical fiction novel entitled Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein is set in occupied France during World War II and opens with the sentence “I am a coward.” The narrator proceeds to tell you that she tried to pretend to be brave but couldn’t even do that. A very powerful look at war, truth, courage and friendship.

The Friends of the Library and library have to make another change in the acceptance of donated books. We are again receiving more books than we can handle and store and will only accept one bag of books a week from those seeking to donate used books to the library. The library and the Friends also cannot accept textbooks, Readers’ Digest Condensed books or computer manuals.

And in an effort to move more books off of the Friends of the Library shelves, we are looking for a volunteer or two to enter book numbers into a website to see if they will sell them for us. If you are interested in working with the library using a computer and Internet connection at home (or we might be able to work something out here at the library, please stop in and see Diane.

A quick reminder that Thursday, June 28, is the last day to turn in stories for the first “Pictures and Pens” story, see the library blog at http://ifallslibrary.blogspot.com for details and picture.
