Food for Fines is this week! If you have fines be sure and take advantage of this opportunity to pay off fines and support the local Food Shelf at the same time. For each item of food donated to us (to donate to the Food Shelf) we will waive one dollar in fines (no lost or damage fees can be paid with food). So check the cards of everyone in the family, add it up and bring in food to support March Food Share month.

The weather has been positively un-winter like, even un-spring like and that is making us all think about home improvement projects and other outdoor activities. The library has a wide range of books that can help you be ready to move outdoors as soon as the mud subsides. But we also have online resources that are available to you anytime you get the urge (or need) to figure out how to plan a new deck or water proof that basement. Visit http://internationalfallslibrary.us/resources and click on the link for the Home Improvement Reference Center for great step by step directions on hundreds of home improvement projects. Accessing this site will require a password which is available by calling the library or stopping in and picking up a card with the password information.

You can also find links to Chilton Auto Repair manuals and Small Engine Repair manuals whether you are repairing winter damage or getting a vehicle ready to go for summer these resources will be valuable. These sites do require your library card to access.

The library currently has a display of gardening books. This is just a small handful of the books available. So whether you are just beginning or have been gardening for years come take a look at what we have. Our books and movies provide general information about growing your own vegetables to specific help for specific problems. There are also beautiful books about flowers, trees and more. Whatever your gardening desire, we can probably help you find some information to take with you immediately and if we don’t have much, we can search to see what else is available elsewhere in the region and state as well.

Keep an eye posted here for information about an upcoming gardening workshop. We are still working on all the details but in April we’ll be hosting the Women’s Garden Club. They will provide some general information about gardening up here in the north. We’ll also leave time for some questions and hopefully answers.

Don’t forget our Documentary Movie Night at discussion, now held at Backus Auditorium, is Monday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m. We will be showing “Precious Waters” a short film looking at sulfide mining throughout history in northeastern Minnesota. This the last movie until September.

The library has still and video digital cameras available for checkout. Borrowing the video cameras requires you to take a short class providing you with the basic information needed to use the camera and edit the footage.
