Many local families will be assisted with diapers donated by community members through a diaper drive held July 23 through Aug. 13.
The effort collected about 3,600 diapers and 1,500 wipes. The event was sponsored by the United Way of Northeastern Minnesota.
“I am overwhelmed by the response from our community,” said Julie Ehrman, United Way of Northeastern Minnesota Board member and diaper drive Committee member. “It is simply amazing to see that there are so many kind people out there who are willing to help young families in need of support. The thousands of diapers we collected will provide health benefits and comfort to many local babies and relief to their mothers and fathers.”
Boise, Border State Bank, Bremer Bank, City Drug, County Market, Kmart, Koochiching County Health Department, KSDM/KGHS Radio, Stewart’s Super One Foods, TruStar, UnitedHealth Group, and Wells Fargo participated as collection sites during the three-week long drive. Collecting the most diapers was Border State Bank with 636 diapers and 648 wipes.
“Border State Bank was honored to partner with the United Way for this worthwhile community diaper drive. Every baby deserves a good start in life,” said Cindy Youso, vice president and business officer.
All of the donated diapers and wipes will be housed at and distributed by The Salvation Army and Falls Hunger Coalition to families in need.
Beverly Mayfield of the Salvation Army, expressed her gratitude to those who donated.
