Event scheduled for April 14

Dave Csanda of Lindner Media Productions will be among the presenters at the second annual International Sportsman’s Expo.

The expo will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 14 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in International Falls.

As a veteran outdoor communicator whose career has spanned the very formative years of what today is called fishing education, Csanda has fished from Alaska to Australia, Europe to South America, and all across the United States and Canada. He’s had a variety of species on his line including bass, muskie, panfish and trout. Csanda instructs anglers on the fine points of freshwater angling.

The expo brings together hunting, fishing and outdoor enthusiasts with vendor booths, games, food, animal mounts, guest speakers and prize drawings throughout the day.

Other presenters at this year’s expo include Bill Hesselgrave on wild game processing. Hesselgrave specializes in wild game processing and fish filleting. At last year’s expo, Hesslegrave demonstrated care and processing of venison, showing participants how to properly create boneless meat cuts for wholesome, tender and good tasting meals. This year, Hesselgrave will demonstrate filleting fish, including taking the “Y” bones out of the northern pike and lake trout, and the pin bones out of walleye and bass.

International Falls area residents Justin Berg will provide information on shed antler collecting and avid grouse hunter Ryan Anderson will discuss hunting techniques.

Special appearances at the expo are expected by Minnesota Vikings Mickey Shuler Jr. and Frank Youso. Shuler is a two-year tight end on the Vikings current roster, and son of 12-year NFL tight end, Mickey Shuler Sr. Youso is an International Falls native and the very first Minnesota Vikings signed by the organization in 1961. Youso played two seasons with the Vikings before moving to Oakland and playing for the Raiders the remainder of his NFL career.

This year’s big prize draws include guns, fishing rods and a handmade quilt. Smaller prize drawings include merchandise and gift certificates donated by local businesses. For a complete list, visit the website at www.internationalsportsmanexpo.org.

Entry to the event is by free will offering of non-perishable food items or cash. All admission donations will go to the local Salvation Army food shelf and an effort to establish a dialysis program locally. While food items are appreciated, monetary donations for the food shelf go further, note organizers.

Parking at the event is available, but overflow parking with shuttles will be available at the Assembly of God Church across from Dairy Queen on U.S. Highway 53.
