The regular meeting of the Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948 was called to order at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 by president Pat DeLapp, with eight members present.
The opening ritual was held, roll call of officers conducted with Kathy Sikkila, conductress, pro-tem. The general orders and correspondence were read. There were no petitions for membership.
Copies of the October meeting and treasurer reports were distributed to members present.
Reports on Americanism and Youth Activities were given by Irene Anderson. Linda Chezick reported on Veterans and Family Support. All the 2018 VFW calendars purchased by the Auxiliary have been sold. The Membership report was given by Dawn Flesland. Currently, 14 members have not yet paid dues and will be dropped from membership. We are at 89 percent paid.
Donations were made to the St. Cloud Veterans Mental Health Fund, VFW National Home for Children, Operation Uplink and pies will be purchased for the Salvation Army Thanksgiving Dinner.
Tacos on Monday continue to do well. Volunteers are needed for the month of January and forward.
Veterans Day services went well at area schools. The Auxiliary purchased placemats and pencils to give to students.
The drawing for the quilt made by Cami Gray took place Nov. 11 with Larry Buller receiving the quilt. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to purchase a new Auxiliary flag.
The audit report for the months of July through September was read by Dawn Flesland and approved.
Upcoming events include: Nov. 16 — 2:30 p.m., Bingo at Good Samaritan Society-International Falls; Nov. 20 – Noon, lunch following Doug Frahm memorial service; Nov. 24 – 6 p.m., Twas the Lights Before Christmas Parade; Dec. 2 – Noon, Alan Anderson luncheon; Dec. 5 — Auxiliary bell ringing at Super One; Dec. 7 – 2:30 p.m., pies served at Good Samaritan Society-International Falls; Dec. 9 – 8 a.m., Kmart kids’ Christmas shopping; Dec. 12, 5 p.m., Auxiliary meeting, supper at Lenard’s following; and Dec. 18, 6 p.m., Post children’s Christmas party.
The charter was draped for 8th District President Jean Scholar who passed away Oct. 15 and member Marian O’Brien who passed away Oct. 22.
Door prize was won by Beth Johnson.
The meeting concluded at 8:30 p.m. with closing ceremonies.
The next meeting will be at 5 p.m. Dec. 12 with supper following at Lenard’s. Monetary donations to the Food Shelf will be featured in place of a gift exchange.
