If it’s any indication of how funny it is, the cast laughed all the way through their first reading of “The Scoop Sisters,” an Icebox Radio Theater live show scheduled for next Wednesday in the Pete Peterson Band Shell in Smokey Bear Park, International Falls.
Part of the Wednesday Concerts in the Park series, a local cast from both sides of the border will perform the comedy mystery, regardless of weather conditions. It starts at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
“The Scoop Sisters: New School Blues” is a comedic tribute to 1970s TV cop series such as “The Snoop Sisters,” according to Jeffrey Adams, IBRT director.
The Scoop Sisters is an IBRT podcast series that centers around the adventures of a woman who has come back to her hometown after being laid off from her job. She joins her mother, a woman “who never really left the 60s and started a newspaper — a faded radical who bought the local shopper to beef it up a bit,” Adams explained. The family of newspaper reporters solves mysteries, getting in and out of trouble in the small northern Minnesota town of “Icebox.”
This show, the “New School Blues”, is a tale of a teenager struggling to adjust to a new school and a very problematic teacher. When the FBI starts asking around about the teacher, the Scoop Sisters are on the case.
This latest live production stars IBRT regulars Karen Shickell and Vicki Olson of International Falls. “Some of our top actors,” Adams noted.
Cast members also include Veryan Erwin and Piran Erwin of Fort Frances; and Aela Mackintosh, Rachel Adams, and Justin Kapla of International Falls. Dave Erwin of Fort Frances will design and create sound effects, such as footsteps and door props for the play.
The show lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes, including an intermission. Adams invites the public to bring a blanket or lawn chairs and come to enjoy the show.
The production will also be broadcast live on the IBRT’s Internet streaming radio station, heard through the iTunes radio directory, or by tuning in at www.iceboxradio.org.
