Journal Staff Report

The Ranier City Council in a special meeting Monday agreed to accept three easement appraisals for property owners to continue the Three Points North and Riverside Park water project.

The appraisal for Adam Howe came in at $2,832; the appraisal for Joan Evanhoff at $2,222; and the appraisal for Randy Pozniak at $23,895.

Ranier City Clerk Kim Nuthak reported that Pozniak’s appraisal had been amended from an original amount of $12,467. She said the new appraisal came in at $36,362, and the council subtracted the original amount for the final number of $23,895.

Nuthak told The Journal the appraisals haven’t delayed the project that is adding water lines to areas west of old Ranier, and that the property owners have been “very cooperative with the city.”

In other business Monday, the council agreed to close Duluth Street from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday for the lawn mower races during Ranier Days.

The council also agreed to allow Tara Nelson to rent the Ranier Community Building free of charge Saturday. Nuthak said the building will be occupied by David Driapsa, a historical landscape consultant. Driapsa will be speaking of the Rainy Lake culture and history, according to Nuthak.
