Littlefork residents will see a $2 increase in monthly water rates

Littlefork water users will pay more this year as a result of the Littlefork City Council’s approved of a bump of $2 for the minimum water rate.

The council Feb. 17 agreed to increase the minimum monthly water rate from $16 per month for the first 1,000 gallons of water used to $18 per month for the first 1,000 gallons of water used.

No residents attended a public hearing conducted on the proposal prior to the regular meeting.

The price of $3.25 per an additional 1,000 gallons of water used remained the same. Sewer rates were not affected.

The council also agreed to raise the rental rates for the Littlefork Community Building and camping fees for Lofgren Park. (See box for new rate amounts.)

During the regular council meeting, the council unanimously voted to allow City Clerk Mike Fairchild to spend up to $9,000, excluding tax, to upgrade computer systems for the Littlefork Liquor Store.

Fairchild told The Journal that the new systems would be a “perpetual inventory system.

“As soon as an item comes in, it goes right into inventory and we know where it is,” he said.

Fairchild said combined, the updated cash registers would cost around $8,600 before tax.

In other business, the council declined action to spend $58,000 on the second phase of a streetscape project.

The project was intended to beautify the downtown area city of Littlefork. The second phase would have included decorative lighting and fencing along Highway 217, which runs from Main Street to Aspen Street.

Council members agreed that in tight fiscal times, the money could be better spent on other needs.

The council referred to the budget and finance committee for a recommendation the need for additional money for the ambulance service.

Fairchild said the council hopes the committee will determine a way to get the Littlefork Ambulance Service more money to finish a building project.
