A proposed amendment to an ordinance governing rental units in International Falls has been modified and is scheduled for its first reading Monday.
The Falls City Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the council chambers at the Falls Municipal Building.
A proposed amendment to the ordinance that would have required weekly garbage removal by a contracted service at all rental units was put on hold last month when local landlords raised concerns about the amendment, as well as with vague wording in other parts of the ordinance.
The amendment proposed for its first reading Monday now says that the owner of any dwelling unit requiring a license is required to remove from the premises all accumulated garbage and rubbish on at least a weekly basis. If the owner fails to have the garbage removed after one prior written warning, the owner shall be required to contract with an approved garbage disposal contractor.
In other business Monday, the council is scheduled to hear a committee recommendation to approve a labor contract with members of the Operating Engineers Local 49.
The council is also scheduled to hear a report on the “fight on blight.”
The council offers an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of each regular meeting and concludes with reports by administration, department heads and members of the council.
