The Littlefork-Big Falls School Board last week discussed the the prospect of a new bullying policy, as directed by the state.

Superintendent Fred Seybert reported to The Journal that the policy is expected to be implemented by all Minnesota school districts and will be guided by state standards.

“Most districts have a policy already in place,” Seybert said via email to The Journal. “This new state policy may actually amend existing district documents. However, the final decision on this has not been made at this time.”

In other news, Seybert reports that Christopher Bachmeier, L-BF principal, told the board March 20 that he recently attended the National Principal Conference in Washington D.C., which discussed school safety, importance of school climate and building leadership.

Representatives of the school’s policy committee told the board that the committee recommends a change that would require seventh and eighth grade students to take a band or choir class. The class would be worth one half of a credit. No action was taken last week by the board, Seybert said in an email to The Journal.

He said input will be gathered at the next L-BF staff meeting about the recommended policy changes. Any staff recommendation, he said, must accompany actual language for adjusting any current policies.

Seybert reports that the board noted a receipt of desire to negotiate contracts from the teacher’s union.
