Indus School fifth grade attended the 44th annual Outdoors Education Field Trip May 18 at the golf course in International Falls.
This event had groups from the Department of Natural Resources, Koochiching County Environmental Services and Koochiching County Forestry, Voyageurs National Park and Molpus Woodland Group.
It was put together by Marc Glowack, fifth grade teacher in International Falls.
The students participated in learning about fire and boat safety, fur trapping and wildlife management, the ecosystem, habitats, orienteering (which is learning how to use a compass in the forest), forestry management, as well as the different fish species in the Rainy River.
The students reported learning a great deal from this experience and enjoyed the day out of the traditional classroom.
