Autographing session

Indus students line up for the author autographing session at the Young Authors Conference.

Indus School students in grades five through eight attended the Young Authors Conference March 10 at Northland Community and Technical College, sponsored by the Northwest Service Cooperative in Thief River Falls.

An author from Mora was the entertaining keynote speaker for the day. Ryan Jacobson, a noted speaker who uses his talent for storytelling to get students excited about reading, presented “Writing Stories is a Three-Ring Circus,” using a circus theme to introduce the main ingredients of a good story and involving the audience in acting out his story.

Breakout sessions were held throughout the conference, featuring authors such as Sheryl Peterson of International Falls, showing students how to write stories with tension, action and obstacles, and Naomi Woods of Rainy Lake, who helped students learn to create characters. Other presenters included a journalist, illustrator/cartoonist, photographer, scriptwriter, etc. Students also attended a Book Fair and an autographing session with presenters.
